The Alberta Roadbuilders & Heavy Construction Association (ARHCA) is proud of the work our members do to build and maintain the roads and highways on which Albertans depend. Well-built and well-maintained highways improve our quality of life. They give us access to health care, education, and employment, and bring essential goods and services to market.

ARHCA is committed to providing principled and compelling solutions to ensure Alberta’s road infrastructure supports these needs.

An expert advisory panel  brought together by ARHCA prior to the pandemic identified 27 recommendations to improve the management, funding and delivery of road infrastructure in Alberta. The panel’s work was pivotal in forming the foundation for the road building industry’s current and ongoing advocacy efforts related to transportation infrastructure funding.

The panel helped ARHCA identify three key priorities to modernize highway infrastructure planning procurement, construction and maintenance. These include asset preservation, strategically planning for the future, and creating new mechanisms to promote transparency in decision making.

These recommendations remain urgent today. Infrastructure doesn’t pause while decisions are deferred. When maintenance is delayed, the costs don’t disappear — they grow. The need for stable funding, professional oversight and transparent decision-making has only become more critical.
